What is Microneedling?
When over-the-counter skin care products are no longer effective, consider minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatments, like microneedling. Dermatologist Dr. Vladyslava Doktor is happy to offer microneedling (collagen induction therapy) at her office in Boston, MA. Using many fine needles, microneedling effectively and safely makes micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries prompt the body's natural production of collagen and elastin, two nutrients that contribute to the appearance and health of the skin. Easily combined with other skin treatments, such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy, microneedling can help reduce pores, stretch marks, and even scars. Call Skin Center Boston to hear more about the results of microneedling.
Who Can Get Microneedling?
Men and women in the Boston, Brookline, and Dover, MA areas with light or mild complexion issues, like a decrease in elasticity or rough skin texture, may benefit from microneedling at Skin Center Boston. Microneedling procedures can also reduce the look of pores, scars, and even stretch marks. While patients must be willing to wait before seeing improvements from their microneedling procedure since the elastin and collagen will need some time to have an impact on the complexion, they will be left with results that look natural and will gain better overall skin health. How Does Microneedling Work?
Collagen induction therapy with microneedling is performed in one of our office procedure rooms in about 30 – 60 minutes with local anesthesia or numbing cream if requested; however, most patients feel little or no discomfort. The areas of skin being treated will be cleaned before the handpiece is evenly passed over. Small pinpricks will be applied over the skin, prompting new skin to rejuvenate. A moisturizer selected for your skin type will be massaged in along with sunscreen because your skin will be sensitive after the procedure. Microneedling can be combined with other procedures, like PRP therapy, for even greater results.
What Happens After Microneedling Treatments?
Patients will likely experience mild redness and swelling for about a day following their treatment, but this should resolve quickly on its own. Downtime is not usually required for most people, and the majority are able to get back to their work or school routines after their procedure; however, some may wear makeup those first few days to hide the redness. It may take about 1 – 2 months to see significant results, as it takes time for the elastin and collagen levels to begin naturally increasing. Patients should typically plan to get around 4 – 6 follow-up sessions performed every 4 – 6 weeks for the best results and lasting skin benefits.
