What is Sculptra?
As people age, volume loss is inevitable, especially in the face as the cheeks tend to become hollow and flat over time. Dermatologist Dr. Vladyslava Doktor uses Sculptra Aesthetic, a dermal filler that allows for deeper and longer-lasting volume, to restore fullness to the cheeks and mid-face areas. In addition, Sculptra can reduce the appearance of shallow to deep lines and wrinkles, like laugh or smile lines. With a unique formula approved by the Food and Drug Administration, Sculptra increases natural collagen production so the skin will remain strong, even after Sculptra treatments.
Who Can Get Sculptra?
Sculptra is great for anyone who wants to add volume to their cheeks without the worry, expense, and downtime of surgical implants. Some candidates may have been born with flat cheeks, whereas other patients once had full cheeks that deflated with age. Sculptra dermal fillers can also help to improve fine to deep facial wrinkles and lines, like chin wrinkles, marionette lines, and laugh lines. Sculptra is also FDA approved for lipodystrophy in HIV patients, as well as for those with crepey skin.

How Does Sculptra Work?
Each patient will meet with dermatologist Dr. Vladyslava Doktor to discuss treatment goals, needs, and desired outcomes. After that initial consult, a treatment plan will be produced, and the patient will receive Sculptra injections in one of our procedure rooms at our Boston, MA office. A local anesthetic or numbing cream can be applied prior to cleansing and marking the sites to be injected if needed. As soon as the patient is prepared, Sculptra will be injected into the deeper skin layers at the chosen sites. For longer-lasting results, Dr. Vladyslava Doktor performs a series of four Sculptra injections, each performed at Skin Center Boston about three weeks apart.
What Happens After Receiving Sculptra?
Following their appointment, patients may have mild to moderate swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at their injection sites. These areas should heal on their own in 3 – 5 days. For faster healing, patients may want to apply a cold compress to the treated areas. Limiting UV exposure and using sun protection will be important post-procedure. Most patients will notice visible improvements immediately following their appointment with full results in about 3 – 5 months, as the natural production of collagen strengthens the complexion. When Sculptra is performed as a series over the course of 3 – 4 months, results may be visible for as long as two years.
